Our programs aspire to inspire students, particularly women and girls and their allies in the broader transport community, to pursue learning and advance knowledge on Gender in Transport education. These programs aim to equip the emerging workforce in the transport sector with relevant skill sets and knowledges as well as the application of these skills and knowledges. Our ambition is to strengthen collaboration between learning environments and the industry, both public and private sector, across the Asia-Pacific region. The Women in Transport Leadership Network (WiTL) launched the First EASTS PhD and Ear ly Career Researcher Accelerator Forum on 17 September 2017 at the Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Gracefully convened prior the 12th International Conference of EASTS, the Forum served as a platform for students and researchers to share ideas and exchange practical advice about learning and researching in higher education, discuss opportunities and challenges for future professional development, and establish networks and linkages with the members of the academe in the region. The Forum proudly welcomed key transport experts from industry and academia who served as mentors to 26 promising researchers and students from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The Women in Transport Leadership Network (WiTL) launched the Second EASTS PhD and Early Career Researcher Forum on 10 and 11 September 2021. This ECR Forum was held online via Zoom. The theme of the ECR Forum is "Shaping more resilient transport professionals in the new normal and beyond". Specifically, the ECR Forum aspired to (1) strengthen the research skills of students and ECRs through knowledge-sharing with academics, particularly on conducting and publishing research in Transportation amidst the current situation, (2) facilitate discussions among students, ECRs, and industry leaders, particularly on the opportunities and challenges for future professional development, and (3) provide opportunities to establish networks and linkages among fellow transportation researchers and professionals in the region The Forum provided an inclusive platform to the broader research community. It attracted about 40 participants from across the Asia-Pacific region and globally. WiTL’s inaugural webinar on COVID-19 & Women's Mobility was held last 9 July 2020. The webinar was hosted and jointly-organize by the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA in collaboration with University of Melbourne (Australia), University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan (Philippines), University of Economics (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam), Universitas Gadjah Mada (Indonesia), University of Nagoya (Japan) and Thammasat University (Thailand). The webinars covered issues about the COVID-19 impact on Gender in the ASEAN, Australia and Japan. The webinars explored good practices and experiences on how ASEAN countries have dealt with the Pandemic and the extent that the pandemic has affected mobility activities of gender specific groups.

WiTL’s webinar on transport safety was held last 23rd September 2020. Applying digital innovation & modern technology into transportation is no longer strange issues; however, whether we apply efficiently in each context or each country or not - how does it change the people's behaviour as well as the impact to gender? To tackle this question, the panel discussion No 2 "Sustainable Transportation Safety" in the Event Series "Shaping the unknown future toward smart city" which are organized by Institute of Smart City (ISCM), University of Economics and Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) - Vietnam and more than 20 local and international universities, companies, NGOs, local authority around the world; which was hosted by ISCM - UEH (Vietnam), IMOB – Hasselt University (Belgium) and WiTL, and collaborators: University of Melbourne (Australia), University of the Philippines, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan (Phillippine), Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia) and Thammasat University (Thailand). In collaboration with the University of the Philippines National Center for Transportation Studies (UP-NCTS) and the Transportation Science Society of the Philippines (TSSP) and Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies (EASTS) and several Asia and Australia-based universities, the Women in Transport Leadership knowledge network or WiTL is convening a two-part Asian-wide webinar series on November 24 and 25 (2020) featuring scholars who have undertaken important initiatives in gender and transport. The COVID-19 pandemic has once again placed the spotlight and magnified the uneven progress towards gender equality and why gender inclusion, especially in transport, matters now more than ever. And we acknowledge that women cannot do this alone. We need our gender champion partners, the influential male transport leaders, to step up and take action so that together, we can build a more gender equal world. Our first step is understanding and creating awareness.

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #11 aims to make cities inclusive and safe, resilient, and sustainable. The transport sector can play a significant role in achieving this global goal through better mobility and enhancing access for all regardless of their age, economic status, or gender. Yet evidence shows a gender bias in the design, planning, and provision of transport. And gender inequality and discrimination in transportation planning has been magnified by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this webinar, the Women in Transport Leadership knowledge network (WITL) reports on the results of a region-wide comparative research that examined the hidden gender data gap in (active and public) transport in select Southeast Asian cities (Bangkok, Cagayan de Oro, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, and Metro Manila). They shared gender-disaggregated information on the impact of COVID on travel and transport behaviour as well as its implications to planning and policy in a post-COVID world. The Women in Transport Leadership knowledge network (WITL) presented the First GTALK Forum last March 17, 2022, in celebration of International Women’s Day. The online international forum focused on COVID impact in 2021 as we move into 2022, noting the changing COVID landscape in relation to transport and its gendered impact. This forum directly contributes to COVID-19 recovery by sharing and communicating important country-specific outcomes of this project. We shared study results, raise awareness, and advance gender-inclusive transport planning ideas and strategies.
